Every company has a beginning. Ours started in a basement.

Lowe Chemical was founded by people who understood that distribution is about more than products. It is about trust, timing, service, and doing what you say you will do.

Ken and Marlene Lowe founded Lowe Chemical in 1968.

Working from their home in Shaker Heights, Ohio, Ken focused on building customer relationships, while Marlene managed the office and administrative side of the business.

The mission was practical from the beginning.

Customers needed dependable sourcing, responsive communication, and a supplier who cared about solving problems. That mindset shaped the company from its earliest days.

The same values still guide Lowe Chemical today.

Founder Story

Kenneth E. Lowe Sr. brought discipline, drive, and relationship-first selling to chemical distribution.

Ken Lowe's path to entrepreneurship was anything but ordinary. A graduate of Villanova University and Columbia Business School, he built experience in the chemical industry with Stauffer Chemical Company before founding Lowe Chemical.

Before his business career, Ken served in the U.S. Army and earned a place on the United States Services Baseball Team that participated during the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne, Australia, where baseball was featured as a demonstration sport.

That combination of discipline, competitiveness, and professionalism carried into the way he built the company. Ken believed in honoring commitments, building trust, and creating partnerships that could last for decades.

Kenneth E. Lowe Sr. passed away in January 2017, but the company he and Marlene built continues to reflect his commitment to integrity, hard work, and lasting relationships.

Baseball was featured as a demonstration sport at the 1956 Games, and the United States Services squad was assembled from outstanding players serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.

The team brought together talented servicemen from military installations around the world and was led by Coach Walter Koziatek, one of the most respected figures in military baseball. Overseeing the delegation was Col. Steve Weissinger, who served as Officer in Charge.
